SESSION NOTES
Risa began the 4-hour Paint-Along demonstrating the process of painting the prepared Wyvern dragon pattern she provided, focusing on the chest area and explaining her technique of using a dry brush with a mix of Holbein Moss Green G553 and white (Dr. Ph Martins Bleed Proof White) to create base color.
She emphasized the importance of building layers gradually to adjust the light and dark areas where needed with gouache. Risa also discussed the original manuscript's details, including the dragon's fur-like scales, armor-like design on the leg, and unique features like the cloven foot with red claws.
The following came up for discussion during the session.
BACKING BOARD
Risa uses a sturdy board (like Foam Core) she attaches the pattern paper to. This is step allows you to turn the paper easily and eliminates the chance for creasing the paper during the painting process.
ARTISTS WHITE TAPE
Risa folds over 1" Artist White Tape to create a tab to safely secure the pattern page to the backing board. Here is an example on Amazon.
MANUSCRIPT
The original manuscript BSBfrom which this image came from is located in the Bavarian State Library:

EYEGLASS MAGNIFIERS
The Goggles Risa refers to are Eyeglass Magnifiers.
Magnifiers are available in various styles and magnification. With or without a light. Here is an example.
IRIDESCENT MEDIUM
Iridescent Medium is a type of art medium used to add a shimmery, pearlescent, or metallic effect to paints, especially acrylics and sometimes watercolors. It contains fine mica particles or other reflective pigments that catch and reflect light, creating an iridescent or luminous sheen—similar to what you see in pearls, soap bubbles, or beetle wings.
Available anywhere Winsor & Newton products are sold like Amazon.
BRUSHES
Risa is trying a new, economical brand of round, pointed, brushes that come to a nice point for small, detailed areas:
Jerry Q Creative Art White Synthetic Hair Round Brush set available from Amazon and Blick Art Supplies.
