Six 2-Hour Drawing & Painting Challenge Sessions
JULY 11 - AUGUST 15, 2025
10:00am - 1:00pm Pacific Daylight Time US & Canada

This class provides weekly drawing and painting challenges.

Each participant receives six weekly selections of capital letters (majuscules) from Risa’s collection of 9th c. Spanish Visigothic manuscripts.

Choose one or several majuscules each week to replicate and/or alter to meet your whimsy. 

Demos plus tips and tricks are discussed during the Friday Show & Share session.
(Homework is due Thursday at noon PDT US & Canada)

Learn how to accurately reproduce any image, practice verbally sharing your work, give and receive class feedback. Instructor provides written critiques and the option of free private Zoom meetings.

All these components add up to an expressive, fun and creative way to improve and fine-tune your seeing, drawing and painting skills!

FIRST SESSION - Paint-Along with Risa
Download the line art drawing of the letter A (shown above) to paint with Risa at our first session.
Print the pattern onto good paper, like Arches Text Wove or Canson XL Multi-Media paper or Watercolor paper Hot Press or Cold Press (your preference).

2ND - 6TH SESSIONS
Participants are expected to submit homework by 12:00noon PDT on the Thursday prior to our Friday session to be included with the Show & Share slides.
Submit:
1. The original image you are replicating
2. The drawing of the pattern.
3. The pattern you've created to paint from.
4. The final painting.
There is a required naming/labeling format for submitting homework which is explained in the first class, available in the classroom portal and followup email.
