Silhouette Cards with Shelby Barrentine
This card gets its name from the profile the text creates in space, as the key word is silhouetted in space rather than embedded on paper. I provide a template to make a 5x7 inch card. Shelby uses a 6mm Parallel Pen (blue cap) to write a key word for the main design element of the card. All lettering styles can be used to letter the silhouette card but Shelby demonstrates making the card with a form of blackletter and/or Bone. Students learn to "silhouette" the key word by cutting around it with an x-acto® type blade. Many elaborations and variations are modeled regarding color, blending inks, lettering styles, all of which support personalization of the project.
