Birago’s Botanical 'S' is a two-session Live Zoom paint-along inspired by a decorated letter by Giovanni Pietro da Birago, illuminator and engraver for the Sforza court, active in Brescia, Venice, and Milan.

Join Medieval Manuscript Artist/Instructor Risa Gettler as she guides participants step by step through painting a luminous, late-medieval-inspired botanical letter filled with gold*, color, vinework, and sophistication.

The line-art pattern is included with the paint-along.

To make the most of our live painting time, pre-session preparation is requested for an optimal paint-along experience;
Registered participants should watch the prep video and complete the pattern and gouache painting BEFORE the first session.

On the Monday following the two live sessions, a third bonus, non-recorded Live Open Studio Salon session is available as a relaxed evening for questions, troubleshooting, and finishing touches for anyone who would like extra time to complete the project.

Gilding is not included in this paint-along.
Gold will be painted with metallic watercolor.
Participants who wish to use a gilded background should complete the gilding prior to painting the gouache background prior to the first Live session.
