Roman Holiday workshops

Develop a range of possibilities with compound capitals, built up with a narrow edged-nib in the method used historically to write versals. This workshop is suitable for those with some calligraphy experience. The first stage of these letterform explorations includes variations in letter size/weight/proportion/slope/movement and their use in words/phrases and brief texts.
Pre-class videos are provided for letterform and tools overview, encouragement and success. $150

A Simple geometric method which enables the recreation of these archetypal forms with great accuracy. Little geometrical knowledge is needed to do this. Then freehand drawing of more contemporary letters which Tom refers to as his ’Dynamic Capitals’. $150

An in depth look at structure, shape and rhythm will help learning to observe, recognize and appreciate the details that make italics a more complex and refined script beyond the basics.

Students explore different tools and techniques from formal broad edge pen writing to dynamic and gestural proposals with other tools. $150

Step away from the ‘straight base line’ and create something different—something fresh using Circles!

Look at circles differently and learn how to incorporate circles into your lettering designs. Students stretch, pull and push the boundaries of what could be possible in order to create something that is unique!

‘Free Writing’ is also addressed and encouraged. $150
